No account, no identity

There is no sign-up. Expedition never asks for your name, email address, phone number, birthday, or anything else about who you are. On first launch the app invents a random key, stores it in your iCloud Keychain, and that key is your entire identity to the game. We could not connect your expedition to you if we wanted to.

The one thing you type is an explorer name for your museum plaques. Pick anything; it is a label, not an identity, and you can change it whenever you like.

Location

Expedition reads your location only while the app is open on your screen, because the game is about where you are standing. There is no background tracking of any kind — the app does not ask for that permission and has no use for it.

When you search, the place you searched is recorded in your expedition's log on our server. That is what draws your Travels map, keeps dropped artifacts where you left them, and stops the same patch of ground paying twice. Those coordinates are tied to your random key, not to you.

What the server keeps

Your expedition's log: gold, crystals, artifacts, gems, museum progress, your explorer name, and the locations of your searches and drops. It lives on our server (the game calls it the expedition office) because a shared world and an honest economy cannot live on the phone.

The app also reports a handful of anonymous, first-party events — a screen was viewed, a shop was shown — attributed to the same random key, with no device identifier, no advertising identifier, and no third-party analytics service involved. There are no third-party SDKs, no ads, and no trackers in the app. None.

Purchases

Crystal purchases are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We receive Apple's signed receipt so the office can credit your crystals; we never see your payment details of any kind. Receipts are kept only so a purchase is never credited twice, and for tax compliance.

Children

Expedition is a general-audience game. It is not directed at children under 13 and is not listed in the App Store's Kids Category. It also collects nothing that could identify a child — or anyone else. If you are a parent and would like a child's expedition erased anyway, write to the office and it will be done, no questions asked.

Erasing an expedition

If you want your expedition's log erased, write to expedition@jacket-industries.com from inside the app's support path with your explorer name. Erasure is permanent; artifacts you once carried remain in the world's shared history, credited to an explorer whose fate the archive records with regrettable relish.
